TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The state’s teachers union says it is disappointed after another loss in its effort to overturn a 2011 law that set new guidelines on teacher evaluations.A federal appeals court in Atlanta on Tuesday upheld a lower court’s decision last year to throw out the case.Seven teachers from three counties, as well as the Florida Education Association, contended that the 2011 law tying teacher evaluations and pay to standardized testing is unconstitutional.While the appeals court said the system may not be the best way to evaluate teachers, and may actually be a poor one, it ruled against the teachers.

Just to clarify, this ruling, when it talked about the evaluation system that it might be a “poor one,” was not talking about the value added model, but about applying VAM scores to teachers that did not teach the topic and students tested. The teacher ranking on this site is only of the teachers who actually taught the students and subjects evaluated.
